National Christmas Travel Forecast

National Christmas Travel Forecast:

Northeast:

Weather: Snow from last night will be tapering off from west to east this morning. This will make way for dry conditions for your Christmas Eve travel. Use caution if traveling early in the morning as some slippery roadways are possible.

Temperatures: Temperatures will only top out into the 20s and 30s across much of the region.

Southeast:

Weather: No significant travel delays expected across the southeastern states with a mixture of sun and clouds likely.

Temperatures: Look for temperatures mainly in the 40s and 50s across most of the region with 60s and 70s into Florida and southern Louisiana.

Midwest:

Weather: No significant travel delays expected across the midwestern states. Maybe some rain showers possible in portions of southern Missouri.

Temperatures: Expect temperatures to top out into the 20s and 30s across the northern states of this region with 40s expected elsewhere.

Southwest:

Weather: In the southwestern states most of the region should be travel delay free with the exception of Texas and Oklahoma where we have some severe weather possible. In portions of south-central and eastern Texas we have a risk for an isolated tornado along with an isolated damaging wind and hail threat. Into southeastern Oklahoma the main threat will just be some heavy rainfall with localized flash flooding possible in low-lying areas. This severe weather threat could disrupt some travel. Elsewhere across the region we are not expecting any travel delays.

Temperatures: Texas will mainly see temperatures topping out in the 60s and 70s from central into eastern portions of the state with 40s and 50s in the western and northwestern portions of the state. Oklahoma and New Mexico will top out into the 40s and 50s. Arizona will top out in the 40s and 50s for the northeastern part of the state with 60s and 70s for the southern and southwestern portion of the state.

West:

Weather: Most of the eastern half of this region should remain travel delay free. The western half of this region and into much of California will see a big mix between rain and snow. Snow will mainly depend on elevation, but also could reach some valleys if it gets cold enough. The rain could cause some localized to isolated flooding issues across portions of Oregon and northern California due to already saturated grounds. This weather will move eastward into Idaho and Nevada throughout the day. If traveling through these states please use extra caution on the roadways.

Temperatures: Higher elevations will top out in the 20s and 30s with most of the region being in the 40s. In portions of southern California and far southern Nevada expect temperatures ranging from the 50s, 60s and 70s.
